Introduction
The Dept. of Japanese Regional Culture received approval for the establishment of the department on October 2, 1980, and selected 40 students as its first cohort on March 12, 1981, the following year.
The educational goal of our department is to cultivate experts in Japan who can actively respond to changes in the times by systematically studying fields such as Japanese language, literature, culture, history, geography, and society, based on an accurate understanding of the Japanese language, as well as communication and reading comprehension skills.
To this end, the department has subdivided its curriculum into major fields such as 'Japanese Language Communication,' 'Japanese Cultural Contents,' and 'Japanese Regional Information Convergence,' and has continuously developed specialized major courses. In line with this, the department name was changed from the Dept. of Japanese Language and Literature to the Dept. of Japanese Regional Culture starting from the 2023 academic year.
In addition, our department has expanded exchange agreements with numerous Japanese universities through international academic exchanges, and in particular, took the lead in concluding agreements with Kitakyushu City University in September 1997, Sonoda Gakuen Women's University in June 2004, Katsui Women's University in March 2006, and Suzuka International University in January 2008.
In addition, the department actively operates programs that allow current students to train locally in Japan, such as the department's specialized programs like the short-term Japanese cultural experience, the Korea-Japan university student international exchange club, exchange students, and Japanese MEXT scholarship students.
In this way, the Dept. of Japanese Regional Culture is steadily expanding research activities and strengthening specialized education through exchanges between professors and students and Japanese universities, aiming to contribute to the cultivation of Japanese experts required by future society.
